Burundi - Masha - Honey Process
'This one slaps' - Francis - Head Trainer
We buy a fair bit of coffee from Burundi. Each year we're surprised by the quality of offerings from this often less than favoured origin, which regularly plays second fiddle to its East African powerhouses in Kenya and Ethiopia.
As coffee processing becomes more well understood and that knowledge is spread into new regions and co-ops; farmers have access to an array of techniques for fermenting their crop. We think this is evidenced greatly in this lot from Masha Washing Station, who's honey process is excellent, eschewing the earthy character Burundi coffees have a reputation for.
In the cup there's lot of fruit and acidity, which is complex and balanced and every bit as good as Kenyan coffees which are so often prized above those of the interior African countries.
