Colombia - Wilton Benitez - Orange Bourbon - Thermo Shock
It's no exaggeration to say that Wilton Benitez's coffee is legendary. Granja Paraiso's Thermo Shock process has radically changed the way people perceive the impact and role of processing on coffee flavour. Frequently creating flavours that are so abundant and individual that they're accused of "cheating"; when we were presented with an opportunity to buy some lots, we jumped at the chance.
Our final purchase of Wilton's coffee for 2024 is the renowned Orange Bourbon. Occasionally, as a green coffee buyer, there are coffees that make you drop everything you're doing and buy them. This was one such coffee. Francis, Josie Coffee's trainer, messaged saying that he'd just tasted the best cup of the year. We put aside all our work and sought out the importer, Farmore, to get hold of some. We're delighted in the result.
This mutation of Bourbon has excellent cup quality and is known for it's citric acidity. There's plenty of this acidity in the cup, with intense fruitiness and an equally big texture. This coffee leaps out and delivers a quantity of flavour that has us floored.
