Gichatha-ini is the best known of the three washing stations operated by Gikanda FCS; and the source of the “Gi” in Gikanda. The station is much loved by the Josie team and throughout the broader specialty coffee world, so we were very happy with the way this lot cupped when it crossed our table among the Café Imports samples.
There’s plenty of classic Kenyan character in this cup, reflecting the reputation of Gichatha-ini’s growers and the quality of its processing. We love its high acidity and big body, which give the bright fruit character plenty of room to shine. In the cup, it reminds us of red liquorice lollies.
