- Pricing overview
- The prices stated are purchasing costs only; they don't reflect our total costs or the total quantity actually paid to farmers. They're an indicator of our economic impact as a business.
- Our landed cost Our landed cost is what the coffee costs us by the time it is ready to leave the domestic warehouse and head to the roastery.
- AUD $20.65/kg
- Shipping cost Shipping costs are the amount we pay for the domestic shipping of the coffee to our roastery. We quote this separately to the landed cost because this price can vary greatly.
- AUD $0.84/kg
Last year, when we purchased coffee from Mugaya the Mutira FCS was in internal turmoil over the management of co-operative finances, which had led to a replacement of the board seeking higher prices paid per kg of coffee cherry. The great news this year is that an audit of the finances for this years harvest showed a significant increase in price paid to farmers by the co-op (up 75% on the disputed payouts prior to the leadership spill), and 5% above the average in Kirinyaga. It's great to see a co-op delivering for it's farmers, and grass roots change leading to better results for everyone.
We love the profile of this lot, and weren't surprised to find that it stood out to us on the cupping table. The lot is sweet, fruity and has a great "snappy" acidity that gives great complexity to the cup. It's always a pleasure to drink, and even sweeter with the knowledge that more of the price we pay is going back into the pockets of the farmers themselves.
