Kenyan coffees are a staple part of the Josie Coffee lineup. We purchase most through well known exporter Dormans. Each year we line up the lots we can get hold of and taste them all 'blind' pick our favourites and order them.

This year on of those picks was from the Mutira Farmers Co-op and their processing factory at Mugaya. The Co-op has had an eventful year, with members ejecting co-op leaders under accusations of embezzlement. The co-op operates seven factories and represents the interests of thousands of farmers, Mugaya alone has over 1100 members.

Internal turmoil notwithstanding, coffee production rolls on and this years AB lot from Mugaya has plenty of the things we love about coffees from Kirinyaga. Lots of excellent caramel character with typical Kenyan acidity. The cup gains structure and complexity from this combination and we love the result.
