Kenya - Ritho Coffee Farmers Co-op - Wamuguma - PB - Washed Process
The Ritho Co-op owns two mills in the Gatundu South area in Kiambu region, this lot is the PB separation from the Co-op's Wamuguma Station. The washing station is located in a beautiful valley on the edge of a stream, from which water is pumped for use in the washing process. Total membership for the co-op runs at around 1600 members who bring their cherry to the stations for processing; as well as payment for coffee the co-op also looks after marketing and provides low cost farm inputs, such as fertilisers and pesticides to their members. Currently, Ritho FCS is pushing for more female and youth membership to pave a way towards more societal equitability.
This peaberry is incredible! It's full of rich caramel flavour and aroma, it's got tonnes of winey acidity to balance what would otherwise be a heavy cup. That acid gives way to a juicy body with a finish that's very stone fruit and pleasantly sweet, reminding us of apricot. A total winner.
